NEWS FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE:
As we look forward to the 2008/09 school year we would like to share information regarding health office policies and practices.
Medications:
If your child needs medication during the school day, the State of New Hampshire Administrative Laws and Rules Ed. 311.07 requires a physician’s order and a parent signature to assist with or administer prescription medications to any student. We will not administer medication without these signatures. Medication must be brought to the school nurse, principal, or the front office. It MUST be in the original container properly labeled (pharmacy label if prescription medication), with the students name, physician’s name, name of medication and instructions.
Students may not carry medication with them (prescription or over the counter). This is to ensure student safety
NH RSA 200:42 states children are allowed to carry Emergency Medication such as EpiPens and Inhalers as long as the physician has filled out and signed a Student Self Administration of emergency medications form. These forms must be brought to the school nurse.
For children with Reactive Airway Disease (RAD) and or Asthma, most physicians now use an “Asthma Action Plan” for children in school settings. We have found this to be an invaluable tool in anticipating and supporting your child’s health throughout the school year.

Exemptions
Medical exemptions require yearly documentation from a physician.
Religious exemption requires a one time notarized form.
